TWO HOMES (DUAS MORADAS)

Floriano Inacio Jr.’s fifth album reflects his journey between Brazil and Switzerland, combining Brazilian Rhythms and Jazz

“A boy from the South Zone, from São Paulo to the world. The space limited him, so he traveled in search of something new… From that quiet street he expected nothing more… It was time to dream about what was inspired by music…” So begins the poem Transcendence, written by Vinícius Guarnieri, about the pianist and songwriter Floriano Inacio Jr., who is now releasing Two Homes (Duas Moradas), an album that reflects his journey between São Paulo, where he was born, and Bülach, Switzerland, where he has been consolidating his career.

The artist’s fifth album has the diversity of Brazilian rhythms as its main source of inspiration, while being strongly influenced by jazz aesthetics. With engaging melodies, contemporary harmonies, and an expressive presence of improvisation, the work reveals Floriano’s passion for “Jazz” and “Brazilian Jazz”. This fusion is reflected in the dialogue between piano and cavaquinho, along with a rich instrumental variety that adds depth and brings a particular dynamic to each track of the album.

This album marks Floriano’s return to his roots, being the first time he records in Brazil, in a studio in the countryside of São Paulo, in a bucolic environment, surrounded by nature. The atmosphere of this location was vital, providing a special connection that transformed the recording process into an almost magical experience, revealing unprecedented emotions.

The album’s songs, all written by Floriano, carry a strong personal resonance. Inspired by nature, family, and musician friends and poets like Raul de Souza and Vinicius Guarnieri, whose memories remain alive in each note, these compositions were born both on piano and guitar, created in various parts of the world. The collaboration with Brazilian musicians, old friends, and new partnerships added emotional depth and creativity to each track.

Much more than an album, Two Homes (Duas Moradas) captures Floriano’s life experiences and his deep connection with music, which accompany him in every place he calls home. The artist hopes that, when listening to his compositions, people can feel the peace, joy, and energy that he experienced during the creative process.

Novas Raízes

“Novas Raízes” (New Roots) is the name of the latest album produced by the pianist Floriano Inacio Junior.

The “Raízes” (Roots) represent the link where the past, present and future are intertwined. Now these links are “Novas” (New) – given that fruitful partnerships from this journey up to this point were added.

The value of life, love and respect for nature gave Floriano a perfect liaison of happiness, inspiring him to produce this album, the fourth of his career.

Strong, contagious melodies and a lot of improvisation produced by a wide variety and combination of instruments, coupled with a passion for “Brasil Jazz” and “Samba Jazz”, are indelible characteristics of Foriano’s style. Driven by this energy, the composer, arranger and instrumentalist imprints a vibrant “Brazilianness” on the twelve compositions that frame this jazz-governed platform. Viewed by him as an amalgam between his incessant studies, academic advancements and his own nocturnal experiences, this fusion leads to an ever-deeper intimacy with his instinctive musicality. Jazz therefore, is for him a connection between knowledge, experience and sharing.

Imbued with boundless energy, the recordings to Floriano represent a long journey across the “Oceans” and through the “Winds of the Sahara” until reaching his final destination – a clear demonstration of reverence towards his new home with “Samba pra Helvetia” (Samba for Switzerland), metaphorizing some titles of his compositions.

It’s worth mentioning that the musicians invited to take part in this new project, although of different nationalities, all speak the same language – music.

The smoothness ascribed to Floriano and his compositions say a lot about him and the calm wisdom with which he expresses different rhythms “roots” of his ancestry, vividly alive in his music. Sharing his opus is an exercise in memory, a need for recording permanence, but also a desire to impart peace and happiness.

May the roots grow; when exposed, the roots spread and create safe and fertile soil for a genre of musicality open to discourse and a plethora of influences that steadily, piano piano, translate into melodies.

The “Novas Raízes” (New Roots) are earth, path and union. They are pure communion.

Paulistano

“Paulistano”

On his new album Paulistano, Floriano found his inspiration to develop a musical creation from the roots of his birth place, the city of São Paulo, Brazil. Specifically, the southern part of Sāo Paulo.

The starting point of his journey seeks not only musical, but interpersonal horizons throughout the world which are stamped and present in every song of the album. It is a journey to his past.

Each memory, discovery and accomplishment adds extra color and details to his compositions and arrangements.

Melodies and harmonies range from the more traditional Samba-Jazz style on the track”Paulistano”, to a more modern style found on the track “Thailand”.

“Attitude” reflects Floriano Inacio Jr’s journey through memory, family and musical roots. The magical layers present in this recording are an invitation for us to travel through our memories and our roots! This is represented well in “Emoção à Flor da Pele”.

Floriano Inacio Jr explores his virtuosity, techniques, his musicality and taste on various instruments. Whether performing as a soloist or with his ensemble, Floriano offers a clear musical expression.  For him it’s not enough to have complete mastery of his own instrument, he requires an understanding of all the instruments involved and his full relationship with them.  This is Jazz!  Floriano applies both accademic and artistic qualities in his music.  Brazil style Jazz!

Deu Choro

« Choro», traditionally called «chorinho» (little cry), is one of Brazil’s most popular music genres. Unlike its name, the rhythm is cheerful and rather fast. Musicians often meet for jam sessions called «rodas de choro», which are characterised by virtuosity and improvisation. Once the «choro» is in full swing people show their enjoyment by cheering «Deu Choro». It therefore lends itself nicely to the title of this album. With original arrangements and mostly their own compositions, the band presents their first CD bringing you the creativity, colour, charm and happiness of Brazil. Enjoy!

Floriano Inácio Jr.

This first solo album confirms Floriano Inácio Junior’s musical talent, which was already promisingly brought to light in previous group projects such as the Kaiapo trio. The pianist, who is from Brazil, is able to develop compositions that create a special fusion between Brazilian Jazz and different traditional Brazilian rhythms. An energizing freshness comes shining through his music, inspired by diverse influences such as the samba and other traditional rhythms. A piano line sometimes recalling the sound of cavaquinho (a small Brazilian Guitar). And more importantly we hear an amazing, natural and almost intuitive sense of melody.

Floriano Inácio Junior and his truly gifted musicians unveil a brilliant and exciting bright form of jazz in this spectacular album.

Trio Kaiapó

Zestful, vibrant and deliciously melodic, the music of the Kaiapo Trio blends to brilliant contemporary jazz an irresistible Brazilian flavour.
Named after an indigenous tribe from the Brazilian state of Pará, the trio formed by Floriano Inácio Júnior (piano), Eduardo Costa (drums) and Eduardo ’Dudu’ Penz (bass) plays original compositions along with classics of Brazilian music and jazz standards interpreted in Brazilian rhythms.

In this first album together, the 2003-founded trio takes us to a breezy and colourful musical journey to the confluences of thrilling jazz, melancholic bossa and buoyant samba vibes. A magic further enhanced by the presence of remarkable guest musicians. With a constant care for smart arrangements and courageous interpretations, it is not only an amazing interplay but certainly a promising talent that this album reveals, to our great pleasure!
